Hey guys, got an opportunity to attend the grand finale of India Bridal Fashion week and it was none other than the Ace designer & my absolute favorite Rohit Bal bringing down the curtains for IBFW. You know I have a minor grudge with him & it is that he hardly showcases his collection in Mumbai and showers all his love on Delhi – ites. Not fair!
I feel he is one of the best designers that our country has produced(besides being proud of the fact that he hails from Kashmir yay! additional brownie points for being from my land)
& my belief just seems to get stronger with each show.
It’s such a shame that we hardly get to witness his artistic creations in my city so whenever he does, I do make it a point to find a way to attend his shows. Special thanks to my friend Poonam for making it possible each time every time
I remember coming out totally spellbound & mesmerized every time after a Rohit show & it was dejavu all over again. Though the collection wasn’t new cos he has presented the same in Delhi Bridal show in July of 2013 but it was awesome to watch it live. 20 minutes of absolutely delightful visual treat right from the set design to the background score to watching the models sashay the catwalk in some of the most breathtaking designs. Rohit’s exquisite collection took you back to the Shakespearean era characterized by high collars, ribbons snaking down the sleeves and velvet flowy silhouettes. The show started with Lag ja gale ki phir yeh haseen raat ho na ho and you couldn’t help but feel the pain of pining as you saw the models walk down the ramp in beautifully layered intricately crafted black n white ensembles. As the show progressed we heard some sexy & sensuous Asha Bhosle numbers like Aa jaane jaan & yeh hai reshmi zulfon ka andhera all keeping with the mood of the show. It was clever use of fabrics right from Mulmul to voiles to velvet with some beautiful kashmiri embroidery which is his signature to shibori tie n dye techniques. The show ended with Rohit breaking into a jig with his models and pulling Abhishek Bachchan on the ramp.
What’s not to love about this man but here are my 5 reasons to love him.
1. He hails from Kashmir and his heart beats for his homeland which is quite evident in his creations.
2. He dances on the ramp with complete abandon.. totally adorable
3. He is unabashedly flamboyant & extremely effervescent which is quite palpable in his shows
4. His costumes are not just designs but are a piece of Art and he totally kills it.
5. Lastly how many can pull off a name like “Gudda” & dare to be different making men wear skirts , sindoors or nose rings!
Without further boring you, here’s presenting Rohit Bal.. Enjoy the visual treat
And that’s me at the show
& with the man of the hour
I had fun.. hope u enjoyed too
Lots of love
