Getting ready to welcome Festivities

IMG_6989

IMG_6989

Its the starting of the favourite time of the year. Th last 4 months before yet another year ends. The festival season is upon us. Also the time to take out your fineries and dazzle the world. This is the only opportunity I take to dress myself up in layers of clothing even if the weather does not permit us to do so.
I love wearing Indian attire during this time. I truly believe that we Indians look so beautiful in our Indian clothes. I am kickstarting the season wearing this beautiful peachy Anarkali by Ritu Seksaria. I love how simple yet elegant it looks and the golden dupatta just makes the look complete.

I also wanna take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy Ganesh Chaturthi. Hope the Lord brings lots of happiness along with him. Also I hope you are getting an eco friendly Ganpati home cos trust me even God wants to save our planet :-)

IMG_3522

Hello People of my world. Hope you are feeling happy and cheerful cos its festive season. My spirits are usually vey high from Sept till start of next year :-)
As you would know I have also started my full fledged YOUTUBE CHANNEL which will have some VLOGS and videos from time to time of anything interesting or just a usual week in my life. Do let me know how you feel about it. Meanwhile this post is a Blogpost of all the looks (minus 2 variations) I showed on my YOUTUBE Festive looks video. Hope u caught it. If not you can see it here below

1. COWL JUMPSUIT FROM GLOBAL DESI
I loved this blue color cowl jumpsuit and I know most of you have too from all the comments and DMs I received. It’s currently available in Global Desi in their festive range. I am also wearing earrings from Global Desi.

PS : A Variation of this look is in my Youtube video

2. MAXI DRESS WITH JACKET
An easy breezy daytime wear from Global Desi. Perfectly apt for attending daytime functions. I paired it with Flats and earrings from Global Desi again and kept the look very neutral.

3. ANARKALI WITH A BENARSI DUPATTA
Benarsi trend is so in these days. I love taking old saris from my mom or aunts (their wedding time) and converting them into dupattas. I did one earlier too with a blue dupatta and you all loved it. This time I converted this green one. This Anarkali has been lying in my wardrobe since last year so just paired it with this one. I am wearing earrings from Curio Cottage. I also love big bindis.

4. SHORT KURTA WITH PATIALA AND BENARSI DUPATTA
I got this Kurta tailored to my fit and wore it with a white salwar so I could pair it with this bright benarsfi dupatta. Just added a mango tikka and good to go.

PS : A variation of this look is there in my video

5. A LONGLINE JACKET WITH KURTA AND CROP PANTS
This is an evening GLAM look. I love adding jackets to everything. They just look beautiful
Again this jacket is made from a 40 year old sari I took from my aunt and got it tailored. My boutique owner suggested wearing it with crop pants and Kurta & I am glad I listened to her. I love how my eye make up turned out. I smoked it up, kept my hair straight and slick and added this beautiful choker from Aquamarine. The good part about these jackets is that you can later pair them with a western outfit & it looks very cool.

Queen of Hearts!!

img_0231

img_0231

Magical, Mystical, Beautiful she rules the Kingdom of “Hearts”. She guards it with her life. She goes to lengths to save it from demons. She keeps a keen vigil when everyone is fast asleep. Charming, Magnetic & very Attractive she has the ability to favourably influence others. She is loved, she is respected but she can be fierce if deceived. She moves around with the Lamp of Love. She lights it with the fire within.  She spreads that light in her Kingdom so no thief can dare to come in.

My Diwali Finale post. I had so much fun creating these looks. Hope you liked them. I tried to stick with Modern meets Ethnic theme for this festive season so combining a plain button down shirt with a beautiful lehenga by Priti Singhal styled with some breathtakingly majestic fashion jewellery by Aquamarine again. The whole point is to get creative and play around with the pieces in your closet. What are you wearing this Diwali season.. would love to know.
Signing off for the festive season with lots of good wishes from FUF

Have a very HAPPY, NOISE FREE & BLESSED DIWALI. May this festival of lights illuminate your life and bring you lots n lots of good health, wealth, prosperity & peace.
Be Safe & Have Fun!

India Modern!!

img_9702e

img_9702e

I was recently following Amazon India Fashion Week being held at Delhi, the theme for which was “India Modern”. I love it because it fits totally with my Fashion sensibilities too. It connects modern to ethnic. The designers have gone to great lengths to bring this concept alive on Runways. The revival of Gold jewelry paired with modern silhouettes. The traditional Indian pieces being worn with fluid drapes just changes your perception towards these ornaments that we have only imagined with Indian wear. Can you tell me just  how many times has a Sari Reborn??  The innumerable times this traditional piece has been twisted and turned to make it as contemporary as possible is phenomenal sometimes hilarious. I mean we are now shortening the length of this garment to drape it as a Dhoti or wearing it over pants or doing some random things with it!! I am wondering how Draupadi would feel about it.

Having said that I salute the vision of these creative people who give us so much inspiration to work with and somewhat transform these ideas in our daily wear. We are seeing a massive wave of this kind of fusion all across. Bindis with shirts & jeans, Jhumkas with dresses, or Maang tikas with denims seems to be the direction in which our Modern India is moving. I remember a lot of eyebrows being raised when Sonam Kapoor was seen in a nose ring at Cannes Red carpet a few years ago. Many went on to say it was Blasphemy but that seems to be the norm today. More and more people are adapting risqué fashion. The weirder the better :-)

Looking at India in a contemporary way is the theme I thought of taking this festive season so I have decided to work on a fusion between traditional & modern. Mixing and matching everyday modern wear with something ethnic is the way I look at dressing up this season. So I chose this Anarkali to be worn as a cape over my denims. The simple ensemble has been brought alive by these beautiful pieces from Aquamarine Jewelry. I decided to wear something modern yet with a hint of Indianness & these beautiful gems just drove home the point.

This is the first post for this festive season. Wait for some more to come. Hope you enjoy the pictures.

Merry XMas!!

IMG_6783

Hello People of my Fashion world. I would have loved to put this post up 2 days ago but my other work commitments kind of kept pushing it back. Nevertheless here I am with my Xmas post. I love decorating my Christmas tree. Its kind of therapeutic for me. I have been keeping a tree for past 5 years ever since I moved to my new house, last year being an exception since I was travelling. I like to buy some small gifts and keep them under the tree to be given away later. Some I keep for myself tho. I like to believe Santa left them for me on Christmas eve :-)

I also like to collect Christmas charms and take a lot of effort in their placement. I know it sounds crazy but like I said its therapeutic for me. You have to see the childlike glee on my face when I am setting it up. Anyway leaving you all with lots of pictures of me & my Tree. I wish I had a really really big house & I could buy a really ginormous tree someday. I hope Santa is listening.

MERRY CHRISTMAS GUYS & A VERY VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EACH ONE OF YOU

I deliberately decided to stay away from Red this time cos I thought it was done to death & sort of cliched. Also I seem to be wearing a whole lot of Black this year. So just another one from my sea of Blacks. Hope u liked the pictures as much as I enjoyed putting it up for you all.

Have a wonderful Christmas. May Santa bring lots n lots of goodies for you this year.

Lots of love, luck & good wishes

Happy Diwali !!

P1060130

The last post for the festive series & this brings me to the end of ethnic week on FUF. I had so much fun creating all the different looks for you guys. Hope I was able to inspire you enough to style your own outfits.

The idea was to get creative and instead of investing further more into one of those hugely elaborate & extremely expensive Indian garbs which I would barely use, experiment with the pieces I already own or look out for pieces that can be used multiple times. What I learnt is that by choosing the right accessories it was easy & fun to put the whole look together.

This one I am wearing right now has been saved by me for a Diwali party at my place. The easy cool vibe of the dress will allow me to float around effortlessly as the gracious hostess I plan to be tonight and the subtle ethnic hints go well with the Indian theme. All I did was add a pair of earrings to drive home the point. What do u think.. Nailed it???

Just incase you have missed out on the other posts, feel free to check out the last few posts.. its all about being Indian.

Have a Happy, Noisefree & Blessed Diwali everyone. May this festival of lights illuminate your life & bring you lots n lots of good health, wealth, Prosperity & Peace.  Be safe & Have fun..

Sari & the Story!!

IMG_5314

IMG_5314

This one I saved for just before Diwali cos this one is special. I was discussing with my friend that how I wanted to do a special post for Diwali because last year due to some reasons I missed out on presenting anything special. This was just before I planned to shoot Garden of Eden. She immediately came up with this idea of styling a sari since I had never done it so it will be different.

I was extremely apprehensive cos firstly who will tie the sari at 6 in the morning for me. Secondly where do I find a blouse on such short notice and thirdly I am extremely clumsy with this Indian Fabric. I slept over the idea and continued with my other plans. It however stayed in my mind as I continued with all my planned shoots silently working on this look on the side as an option that may not see the light of the day.

Several thoughts were running through my mind as to- which sari, what look?? – should it be modern or traditional? should it be sexy or Elegant?? Sabya or Manish?? Countless images were conjuring in my mind- Sridevi in Kaate nahi kat te , Madhuri in Dhak Dhak, Rani atop a snow clad mountain, Mumtaaz in Aaaj Kal Tere mere, Priyanka in Bajirao or Rekha in an elegant Kanjivaram. What to do?? (I have no clue how I would have pulled off a Sridevi or Madhuri or even Rani in snow! but what the hell..Its brainstorming!!) Inspirations were running agog, coming in multitude forms.

Of course being married to a South Indian means access to some beautiful Traditional Kanjivaram delight. So that’s it, a couple of frantic calls were made to mom -in – law. Obviously an overenthusiastic MIL at the very idea of her DIL asking for a sari & the thought of seeing me in 9 yards (which btw is very rare) stepped up the gear (At this point I remembered FUF reaches all her relatives too so she must be pretty excited :-) )and came back to me with 4-5 options . All of them carefully selected & packed. You have no idea how South Indians love their Kanjivarams. I must say they were all gorgeous. I rummaged through the section of the cupboard that I hardly pay any attention to and managed to find a top that could go with any of these heirloom pieces.

The alarm was set 2.5 hours before the reporting time, usually it is 1.5 hours. Extra 1 hour to tie my sari. After a few trials and errors and some 100 safety pins later I managed to get it right. The shoot went off pretty well though both Ushmi & me ran out of ideas to pose in a sari. I was pleased with the results and sent a couple of pics to MIL. She was ecstatic. One stone two birds!! Now that is happiness. Special thank u to my friend for seeding this idea in my mind :-)

Happy Dhanteras & Happy Diwali :-)

Leaving you with some more inspiration on what to wear from your current closet. Hope u like it

Spicy Sangria!!

IMG_5298

IMG_5298

Finally breaking away from the spell of Black & Gold and moving on to some Spicy Red in this Global Desi Festive outfit. Have you noticed how these slit tops are such a huge rage these days.. I did one look a while back which also could help you for some festive inspiration – Underconstruction.

Coming to Slit tops – well ask me cos of course I follow a whole lot of bloggers and I am just seeing these everywhere. Even brands like Zara & H&M have some or the other version of these.

A fiery Red with some Gold print makes for a heady concoction this festive season. You could find this set in Global Desi Sores. It’s also available in Blue & Black combo but I think I have had enough with Black.

What do you think guys?? Inspired much???

Style Shots – Under Construction !!

underconstruction cover

“The best of me is yet to come.. I am still Under Construction”
That’s what I constantly keep telling myself to keep me motivated to do better in life. It helps me to keep pushing myself and think beyond the ordinary. Sometimes I fail but most often I am able to deliver better.

underconstruction cover

I gave up a decent career in media to pursue something I was passionate about. I accidentally stumbled upon Fashion Blogging and decided to make it my full time job. The road has not been easy and it does throw up challenges every once in a while. I am often caught wondering if I actually am making any difference through my work. How to make my content original & interesting because I see a plethora of blogs doing the same thing and probably doing it better. How do I make my opinion count. Well, does it even count??
These thoughts pretty much have made a small cozy home in my brain and therefore I am constantly struggling to find ways and means to reach out more effectively. There are new ideas brimming and many a times shot down by me in a quest to find a better one. In the end I realise that the Road to success is always Under – construction.

Here I wanted to switch up things and fuse 2 of the biggest trends – Palazzo pants and a long cape to create an Indo Western style. With festive season right upon us, I thought you girls might need some ideas to re -look at your wardrobe and mix n match some things to create something stylish.

PS : A big thank you to my brother Saawant Kaul for helping me with the location of this shoot.. It was definitely not an easy task to shoot amongst all the workers & rubble scattered all over. Safety is one of the biggest issues when it comes to an Under construction site but the people out there were the kindest to help us move around and extremely cautious when it came to safety norms. In the end it was all worth the effort. Hope you like it :-)

Style Shots – Couleur!!

IMG_0070

It’s a rare occasion when I wear Indian but when I wear, it has to be special. A small family function along with my near & dear ones was just the right time to take out this outfit I bought couple of months ago. I love the way these gigantic striking block of colors are paired with each other lending an otherwise extremely simple outfit the right amount of effervescent charm. The best thing was that the outfit did not require much to be done in terms of styling so just these beautiful earrings completed the whole look. I decided to take the minimalistic approach and chucked the dupatta as well. Thought it might pass off as an Indo – Western look. I hope you like what you see :-)
