Get Festive – Lehenga Sarees

I know I have not been very big on Indian wear in my blog in the past and that’s because I hardly wear Indian in my day to day life. They are usually considered “special occasion” clothes stored in my closet for some rather important family or religious function or those conservative parties where you know that you will make a complete fool of yourself if you turn up into anything which is not considered respectful by elders and yes how can I forget the great Indian weddings which I hardly get invited to these days considering all my friends and cousins are married now. Can’t think of one in the near future :-(
Having said that I love wearing Indian stuff on these special occasions cos it makes one look so so beautiful and drastically different from your usual self. Indian ethnic wear especially sarees have the power to make you look sensuous even though you are covered from head to toe. The festive season in India kind of gives us the license to bring out all the gold and glitter from our wardrobe and make the most of these colorful fabrics that we have stacked inside for a long long time. So what better time than now to discuss the trends and make the most of this festive season & if you have a wedding in the family then even better!  Here is the first one in the Get Festive series

As i have mentioned earlier too that we do not have the luxury of too many seasons in our country so Indian wear does not undergo a lot of changes as much as we see in the West but that doesn’t stop our designers from being creative They bring about changes by using different fabrics, play with the blouse designs, sari draping styles, length & styles of the kurtas etc. I love the way our Indian designers use color blocking to the hilt. They can actually make it work like no one else. The beautiful fabrics like Balachuri silk and kanjeevaram are a part of our rich tradition. We have the luxury of playing with myriad of colors because our fabric and designs allow us to do so  and no one and just no one can beat our hand crafted embroidery work.  Even the West have taken inspiration from us and designers are churning out collections that are inspired by Indian fabrics or embroideries, case in point the latest Marchesa collection. I am so proud of our rich heritage.
Coming back to what is being seen currently. What better place to look for trends than our colorful Hindi film Industry. They set the trends for us and we go looking for them in the market.
One trend that I have observed a lot and is made very famous by Sabyasachi is the Lehenga Saree.

Another designer who is best known for her Lehenga saree  creation would be Bhairavi Jaikishen

It is slightly reminiscent of the yesteryear look which is so deeply engraved in our minds courtesy Bollywood bombshell Mumtaaz in the famous “Aajkal tere me pyaar ke charche”song.

The look was copied by Priyanka Chopra in one of our latest flicks

It reflects that 60′s charm and is quite easy to drape. The saree is actually stitched in that manner that all you have to do is tie it around your waist.  Sabyasachi made it really famous when he made some of the beautiful women wear his creation.
Mostly you will find these lehenga sarees in NET with either same color petticoat or you could use a contrasting color of the petticoats. They are really convenient to drape and look gorgeous giving you an effect of a Lehenga cum saree

Deepika & Vidya seen wearing it in cotton or georgette fabrics

I have seen some really beautiful Lehenga sarees at some of these small tiime boutiques with amazing colors and beautiful zardozi works if you are looking for a slightly heavier work.
You could wear them with velvet blouses or heavy embroidered ones with a sexy back. They look gorgeous

This season look out for LEHENGA SAREES just for their convenience and style. I am definitely thinking of buying one for myself :)))
