I was busy watching the very famous and highly anticipated fashion event of the year apart from Oscars. Its sort of Oscars for the East Coast. - the annual Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art!
Its the only night in a year that brings together fashion’s creme de la creme—celebrities, designers, top editors, models, and muses—under one roof, an evening that celebrates the art of high fashion in an arty way. I look forward to this event because where else can you see the most adventurous ensembles parade on the red carpet and push the sartorial envelope.
Every year there is a different theme for the event and this year it paid homage to two powerful Italian female designers and the focus of this year’s exhibit, Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada! As the late Schiaparelli was a prominent designer during the Art Deco era in the ’20s and ’30s, and Prada is one of the most influential names in fashion today, the exhibition is aptly titled Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations.
Since the Met Gala is clearly fashion’s most glamorous evening you can imagine how wonderful everyone must be looking so it was incredibly difficult for me to cull out the best dressed from the pack. However I have my favorite 15. Seriously couldn’t restrict to 10, infact 15 was difficult too. Let’s begin.
15. Katherine McPhee in Elie Saab.
The only reason Katherine makes to my list and usurps a Gisele Bundchen or Linda Evangelista is the color of her dress. A beautiful tangerine color and that deep square neckline does good for her otherwise flat make up and hair. I am sorry Gisele I love you but I like this color more.
14. Bee Shaffer in Erdem
Anna Wintour’s daughter is gorgeous.. Don’t you think so? She spells elegance and grace in this understated Erdem gown. I totally love the nude look and the chandeliers. It pays to have Anna as your mother. Now only if she could smile a little for us.
13. Coco Rocha in a vintage Givenchy
No No the event wasn’t celebrating the Witches of the Eastwick, it was MET Gala. I know not an apt choice for Red carpet but as long as it catches your attention who cares!! Maybe many will not agree with me on this one but there is something about this look that draws my attention. I love the color combination. It is striking and the pink dip dyed hair adds to the edginess of the look. Bravo Coco!!
I certainly hope she gets rid of this color after the event.
12. Joan Smalls in Balmain
While watching the gala I caught a glimpse of this dusky model and I liked what I saw. I searched high and low for a picture of hers but couldn’t find many. Wonder why?? cos this Balmain dress is super cute with these boots and Joan looks stunning in it.
11. Melania Trump in Mark Bouwer
Very chic and very elegant. Melania pulls of this look with elan. I love her shoes.
10. Lizzie Tisch is Mary Katrantzou
I am a big fan of Mary Katrantzou prints. I think she is the most awesome with prints so when I saw this dress, I had to include it in my list. Lizzie gets onto my list only because “there’s something about Mary”
PS: Also because I love the shoes
9. Emma Stone in Lanvin
I must say this girl has nailed the Red carpet. She always manages to turn out well and this time is no exception in this very cute Lanvin tulip dress. The make up and the hair is awesome.
8. Scarlett Johansson in Dolce & Gabbana
Now this girl certainly makes many pulses race and many heartbeats go up co she is simply stunning.
If that wasn’t enough she wears this beautiful off shoulder Dolce Gabbana number to make us red with envy about her gorgeousness. I am particularly loving the disheveled out of the bed hair look. Makes us go Va Va Voom.
2. Renee Zellweger in Emilio Pucci
This is not one of the best pictures that I could find but believe me she was looking stunning in this Emilio Pucci black gown with hints of gold in it. And it is not because I am biased towards her as she is one of my favorites but Renee has taken to Red Carpet as easily as fish takes to water. Her style is phenomenal and she proves it once again. I can’t believe she is Bridget Jones.
1. Gwyneth Paltrow in Prada
Gwyneth hands down was the show stealer for the evening. The pale lilac color dress is so beautiful that I want it this very instant. I would like to draw your attention to the pockets of the dress. So so adorable. The hair, make up, accessories all are stunning and make for a great Red Carpet look. I am floored and I am not even a fan of Gwyneth Paltrow but she undoubtedly looks super in this look. Three Cheers to her.
These were my top 15 for the event but some couldn’t make it to my list cos I liked these 15 better. However I will show you others who missed out.
Meanwhile will request you to vote for your favorite looks on the main Blog.
Those who couldn’t make it to the FUF list but looked great
Julianne Hough in Carolina Herrera
Hope you enjoyed the looks
