Nail love !!

My latest trip in life is to push my Nail salon to try something new with my nails. Every time I go to them my first question is "So, What's new?" While I pride myself into pushing them to come up with something new and provide perfect canvas (read as my nails) to experiment on, I am pretty much sure that they must be dreading having me as a client ;-)

The problem is that we do not have very many options available in India to play around with so you get limited with the choices. I keep seeing some breathtakingly beautiful manicures / nails on Ramps or on variety of these nail blogs and keep wondering how does one get them. Then when you go to your nail salon you are stuck with very few choices to try on. Lately I have started asking for options from the girls in my salon and after constant pressing & plodding I do manage to get something new. My experiments may not always turn out to be great but I am happy to keep trying. So my point is that incase you are someone like me who is not very happy with just painting your nails Red or Blue or Yellow every time you want something different. Don't be afraid to ask for options and try on something new.

Believe you me I have tried Zebra prints, Stripes, Polka dots and whatever we can come up with. Sometimes it works and many a times it falls flat but it's just a polish. One can always remove it and move on with life. Atleast I tried :-)

I have recently developed new found love for Glitters. They have been around for a while but it's now that I have understood the potential of glitter. You don't have to apply one sparkly nail polish or a glitter coat. The art is in layering.. Yes you read it right, it's about layering on your nails too. Whether you mix n match 2 shimmery colors or apply coats of glitter on a single nail polish, it just gives a beautiful effect. I am sure most of you would know about it and may have tried it on too but I haven't seen too many people with it so I thought will share what I have learnt.

All you do is paint a color on your nails say pink and then apply this glitter on top. Sparkles don't need to be full on. Depending on how much glitter you want, apply the number of coats. Voila! Sparkle which is hard to miss.

Apply black polish and then this multicolor glitter. How cool is that!!

or it could be as subtle as this one with just a single layer of glitter on top.

I recently tried it on my nails and believe me a lot of people stopped me to know how it is done. Do I need to say I was very impressed with myself. I am sure if any of my friend would have seen me would have noticed my swagger (wink*wink)

I also tried a gold glitter french with nude nails. It looks pretty decent.

A Word of caution from my experience : It's a pain to remove glitter from your nails. It doesn't come off so easily from a remover. You might not want to go through this pain so get it removed in a salon

The next thing on my list is Matte nails. Again something that's been there but I learnt very recently. All you need is any Matte surface coat that you apply over your polish to mattify it. So you could wear it just as shown in the picture by alternating between matte and gloss or you could try it in french version. Both look beautiful to me. Now I just need to procure this Matte surface coat for myself from somewhere cos my salon does not have it. Does anyone know if its available in Bombay??

& I finally got it done after finding the Mattifying coat at Colorbar (edited on 3rd Feb 2013)
PS : My nail color is not black, it's Ox Blood (Colorbar Shade #031 Vamp). It's a beauuuuutiful shade

So, the point I am trying to drive across is that next time you go for a manicure do try out something new with your nails. Anything that will make people notice them. It could be as simple as what I did last time. I got a multicolored french and everyone noticed. It just gives you a break from something Normal and Normal IS Boring

or french polish in dual tone colors

With plethora of options available in the market, all you need is a little bit of research and inclination and your nails will never go unnoticed

Hope you will try out something new next time and if you do I trust you will share it with me. I will do the same :-)

True Blue Baby I love you :-)

The reigning color at SAG 2013 Red carpet and coincidentally all my best picks for the evening dazzled in the shade of Blues. They looked lovely and once again DIOR struck the right chord. Both Marion Cotillard and Jennifer Lawrence were show stoppers of the evening which goes on to prove how DIOR is changing the game. Dior Returns to Minimalism. Need I say more!!

Amanda Seyfried looked fabulous in a Navy Blue ZAC Posen

Nicole Kidman managed to hold my attention after a very long time in this beautiful Vivienne Westwood gown.

With such varied colors being seen on the Red Carpet, I am still not able to decide what will be the favorite for the year. Any guesses??

POP! Goes my Heart.

That is exactly what happens when I see Kate Spade stores or collections. One of my favorite brand for handbags and accessories - Kate Spade just brightens up my life. The ah-mazing colors, cutesy patterns and quirky designs that's what we get to see with their stuff. It's stepping into another era like 70s where life is in full technicolor. Kate Spade has done a great job in positioning itself as totally a girl's girl brand with bright candy floss colors, vibrant graphics and very feminine designs.

I do make it a point to buy something from Kate Spade when shopping abroad just to add that element of funk in my wardrobe. Be it shoes, belts or even organisers they are just fun and satiate my very girly appetite for cutsey glam. While the whole Kate Spade candy floss girl look could be a little too much happening for us, just that one piece of accessory works very well. I am especially in love with their handbags / clutches.

Right now what I am really aching to get my hands on are these OMG cute pop Art inspired clutches and handbags from their Spring Summer 2013 collection They just look so much fun to hold in your hand. That Pop of color is enough make you happy. Even their Whites are so bright!

While you are checking out the clutches and the bags do NOT miss out on the nails. One of the best seen on the Runway. Full on Gingham style :-)

Shoes in such pretty colors

And my favorite item would be this wicker tube bag to carry your favorite bottled water. How cool is that!!

With Spring round the corner, Aren't these the perfect accessories to welcome Spring in 2013. I am losing my sleep and I somehow have to get my hands on them for that Pop of color.

Currently in my head:
"I said I wasn't gonna lose my head
but then  Pop! goes my heart
I wasn't gonna fall in love again
but then Pop! goes my heart
And I just can't let you go"

Dior returns to minimalism

I have been wanting to write this article for a while now ever since I had a dekko at DIOR's recently released first ever Raf Simons Ready To Wear (RTW Spring 2013) Ad campaign. It took me a while to  get around it as my first reaction was "What!! how minimalistic". Dior has made a sharp turn from wild Galliano days. I guess that has been every single person's reaction.

The campaign has garnered mixed reactions mainly because we have never seen a Dior campaign that is not racy, edgy, wild or invoking awe thanks to the genius of its creative head for 15 years John Galliano. There was sex, attitude, drama, theatrics and larger than life feelings. Also the earlier campaigns always had known faces be it Gisele, Kate Moss or Karlie Kloss whereas this one has a bunch of completely unknown ones.

Enough has been said about Galliano getting kicked out owing to multitude of problems that can be expected out of a uniquely temperamental personality of an artistic wonder but that he was the man behind the innovative, groundbreaking ideas that made DIOR what it is today cannot be denied by anyone. A worldwide name synonymous to Luxury.

Ever since the very big shoes of John Galliano were filled in by another talented designer whose love for minimalistic aesthetics has been evident during his Jil Sander days, everyone including me had been anxiously waiting for this high profile Dior debut. I for sure was not disappointed by Raf's designs. They are classy , chic and very wearable. This campaign....hmmmm .... I am not too thrilled about.  I just can't wrap my head around it. It took me a while to wipe off the earlier images and look at it with a fresher perspective. On second thoughts I feel it could be a well thought strategy on Raf's part to consciously break away from the image that has been so deeply engraved in everyone's mind. I mean you have to do something different to get noticed!!

I have been a fan of Raf Simons from his Jil Sander days and I love what he is doing with Dior case in point all the recent Dior spotting on the Red  Carpet. They reflect fresher, younger take and it's all about simplicity and minimalism a little like Pre - Galliano era. Dior has just been infused with a fresh lease of oxygen after a silent one year at Dior's helm of affairs & I guess it will just take time to get used to a different vision which is in sharp contrast to the earlier one. Many might find his designs underwhelming but I find them beautiful, refined and easily wearable by many like me. For me less is more so yeah welcome Mr Simons.

The Ready To wear Spring 2013 may have been trashed by many owing to lack of drama and being nothing Galliano - esque. I found it to be sensible, chic and just very very wearable reflecting designer's inert aesthetic sense and love for minimalism.
Sleek Pantsuits with scarves around the neck gave a very parisian flair and a whiff of old school glam, LBDs, Jacket dresses, Balloon tops in metallic hues, Asymmetric hemlines in beautiful colors or balloon skirts all are beautiful & extremely wearable options.

There are clearly two set of people when it comes to Dior - staunch Galliano fans and then there are others so it might take a while to  get around them. With John Galliano looking to start a new innings at  Oscar De la Renta (we can't wait to see the Galliano sequel) we may see a shift in the Dior fan base but there is definitely a new set of crop that is pegging their hope on Mr Simons. With this new Ad campaign the start might be a little shaky but it's in the right direction.
