Hi friends.. I know it's been long. Was a little lazy post Diwali celebrations so haven't been able to write much. Nevertheless here I am to guide you through a stylish winter. In India Winters are yet to show their fierce side. We can feel a little nip in the air but the chill is yet to set in. However I hear that in some parts of the world it's become really cold so how are you all coping up? Winters are awesome till the time they decide to be really cruel that's when you wish for some sunshine.

What I love the most about Winters is the fashion. Coats, jackets, sweaters, scarves, caps, gloves are not to make you look dowdy but fashionably chic to brave up to that stingy weather outside. So even if it's cold outside that's no reason to dress up like a grandma. C'mon girls this is the best time when you don't need to worry about those bulges cos they will be well hidden under these layers of clothes. For that particular reason I am loving the Oversized sweater or Boyfriend sweater trend that's being seen this year. I mean they are a savior for people who just want to hide that lard (me included) and yet look stylish. That's like killing two birds with one stone. Bingo!! Comfortable and high on style so yeah Girls another thing to steal from your Boyfriends!!

Again Oversized sweaters are not something new, the trend has been around and is just making a comeback. I first remember seeingthis kind of sweater on Sridevi in the movie Chandni. Late Yash Chopra known for making his leading ladies look stylish had sparked off that trend in early 90's and I remember pestering my grandma to knit one for me & then a similar request was made to my mother so I had two !! I used to happily wear them to school even though they weren't conforming to the standard uniform code but who cared back then. I felt like Sridevi in Chandni....Yeah I know I am filmy...lol.

Coming back to modern times the trend is back but obviously is more refined as per today's fashion. After many years I spotted one my favorite Stylish girl Olivia wearing it and I knew I would be getting one for myself this winter.

One has got to be careful while wearing these only because of the silhouette else you might end up looking  too boxy and stout in it (especially if u r short). I have seen people suggesting many ways to wear it but I am not a big fan of different styling options shown by various stylists.

For me this look works really well with something that is skinny in the lower half. It could be leggings with a pair of boots

or with skinny jeans. Style them with a scarf and put on a pair of biker boots and you look comfy, casual yet chic.

Depending on the style of the sweater, wearing a collared shirt inside would be a good idea for a more put together kind of look.

Oversized cardigans are another great option to go with.

For a more formal look pair them with cigarette pants or cropped trousers and pumps or open sandals and you are ready for an evening out with office guys or drinks with friends. Remember to carry a clutch along.

Oversized sweaters also look great with mini skirts, just incase you are not in a mood to cover ur legs and brave up those winters. Remember to wear tights.

Whatever way you decide to wear them just remember, these are a cool way to make you look stylish so that's what you should strive for :-)

Get Festive - Go for Gold !!

It's Diwali time and so many places to go and parties to host or attend. Struggling to decide what look to go for this Diwali. Do Not worry we are there to help you give some ideas. I sat with our Make Up Artist  Smita to work out a few easy looks that can be tried on this festive season. We worked on our FuFies so that you get an idea as to how will the whole look come out with ethnic wear. According to Smita the Golden lids are very in currently and they kind of go with a lot of traditional wear. The rest of the face is very subtle and only ur eyes are glittering with Gold. So just get your paper and pen and let's get started.

1. Start by applying a primer on ur face and ur eyes too.

2. Using a foundation brush apply foundation on ur face and Neck. Smita recommends MAC's studio fix for a good coverage. Apply concealer under your eyes or any other patchy areas on the face & use your Ring finger to press & place it well on the areas that need to be concealed

Smita's Tips : Mix a bit of tinted moisturizer with your foundation to get that natural looking glow

3. Once you got an even look use a translucent powder to set the foundation. Even a compact powder will work.

Now moving to the eyes. Refer to the diagram below.

4. Start by taking a chocolate brown eyeshadow eg MAC's Espresso or Down Brown on a dome brush or a crease brush like MAC 217.  Go from Inner corner towards outer corner in windshield wiper motion. Follow the outer crease line for this. Extend the line slightly out of the eyelid. 

5. Next take a metallic green colour eye pencil eg. Urban Decay's Covet and fill the lower waterline starting from the inner corner to the outer corner of the eyelid. Apply a very thin line in the lower lash line very close to the lashes   Remember to draw this line also slightly out of the outer corner, just about so that it meets the brown line that was we drew on the upper eye lid. So now we have two lines of different colours on the upper & lower eyelid.

Smita : People you can use any other colored liner like Blue or Purple depending on the color you are wearing

6. Now take a  bright gold colour eyeshadow MAC's Woodwinked or Gold mine OR Inglot  eyeshadow no. P430 and using a flat shader brush apply the color the  upper eyelid keeping in mind not to go out of the brown colour eyeshadow line.

7. Once you have applied the Gold eyeshadow time to apply  gold pigment like MAC's Gold Pigment . Wet it slightly with a drop of water and apply on the gold eyeshadow for the added punch or intensity of colour.  Using your ring finger and spread the Pigment shadow while it is still wet to cover your eyelid & make it look even, again not taking it outside the  brown line. 

Smita's tip : Don’t fret if you do not have a gold pigment, use a gold eyeliner and cover the eyeshadow by drawing thick lines.

8. Take a black kohl pencil like Lakme Ikonic or Urban Decay's Zero  to make a nice thick line under your lower lash line Smudge it a little using a smudging brush & mix the black kohl with the green colour applied earlier. It will give a nice contrast to the otherwise gold eyelids.

9. Apply a black eyeliner on the upper lid starting from the inner corners and make it slightly fat as you go towards the outer corner & flick the line slightly up as this gives a  lift to the eyes & gives an ‘Almond shape ‘ look.

10. Just apply the same color that you applied on your lid to your brow bone.

11. Sweep a nice pink or peach colour blush on the cheek bones eg. MAC's Blush Baby or Inglot Blush No. 54 or 62 

12. Line your lips using a  lipliner in a  colour matching your lipstick & fill your lips with the lip liner. 

Use a nude shade depending on the color that suits you. Smita has used MAC's Spice here and don’t forget to finish by putting lots of lip gloss  in a matching colour for the completed look or you can put a clear gloss too.

And you are all set to wear your fabulous clothes and look gorgeous :-)

FuFie of the Month - Diwali Special Part Deux

It's time to meet the girls yaaaayyy!!

This time I decided to take 3 of these lovely ones as my FuFies of the Month for this Diwali Special. They are young, vibrant and fun to be with. The energy was quite evident during the shoot and we had fun all the way. While Tanvi and Sanskriti are still in the process of completing their studies, Simrata has hosted various News and Lifestyle shows and is currently anchoring a show with a TV Shopping channel.

FUF had the pleasure of bringing them together for this Diwali Special edition in clothes by "Label D"

Meet the cool, confident & graceful  Sanskriti Jitani, a student of psychology who loves to model part time for fun. 

She has worked for a brief time in a production house & is studying hard these days to be a clinical psychologist but her heart lies in modeling. 

Her idea of de- stressing is baking and likes to spend time in the kitchen baking for the big Indian Joint family she lives with. Dancing is another way to de - stress according to her and she has learnt latin ball room dance.

Sanskriti is wearing a Lehanga designed by Dimple. According to Dimple this layered look is what people are looking for most these days. The skirt is in Navy Blue Velvet with beautiful heavy embroidery and the jacket is in net with some amazing sequin work. Sanskriti  looked extremely elegant in this ensemble.

Simrata Singh Chaudhary, a vivacious Punjabi girl whose confident demeanor landed her a job in one of the leading News channels. She has hosted a variety of lifestyle shows as well as reported on some serious events. 

Currently hosting a show for a TV Shopping channel, she is a perfect blend of Indian beauty with youthful charm. Her erratic work keeps her pretty busy through the week but she still manages to find time and let her hair down with her friends.

Simrata is wearing one of the latest trends seen in Indian wear - Lehanga saree. It's for those who do not want to go through the pain of draping a sari. The beautiful color combinations & the intricate work on the borders made the saree look strikingly beautiful and of course Simrata does perfect justice to it.

Tanvi Karnik , a petite, beautiful, soft spoken & well poised Mumbai girl who is a little camera shy. She is a talent pool just like her dad. From painting to writing to cooking she does it all but hardly acknowledges her talent which is kind of endearing about her. Her equation with her mother is an example for many Mothers & Daughters out there.

She has had a brief stint with fashion  when she completed her fashion marketing course and worked with an American Apparel Brand for a short period. Currently pursuing a course in Industrial and Organisational Psychology , she plans to take up a job in the same field.

Tanvi is wearing a Red velvet Kurta with extensive Gold zari work and a navy blue Churidar. This is one of the signature designs of Dimple Shroff which she says is highly in demand by young girls.

The girls hit it off well with each other and had fun while shooting for FUF. Some snap shots :-) 

Indo Western is another trend that people are exploring these days. I have spoken about some in the blog but this one designed by Dimple is extremely interesting. Its a long gown with thigh high slit which can be worn either on its own or with churidar depending on how comfortable you feel.

Sanskriti Jitani

1. Favorite Indian Wear : Anarkalis

2. Favorite haunts for Diwali Shopping this season : Kolkata & Mumbai boutiques

3. Loves about Diwali : fact that the city looks like a bride when all lit up &  loves to gorge on sweets

4. Trends noticed this season for Indian wear : floor grazing Anarkalis, they are getting longer

5. Would like to see revival of : Mumtaz style saris because of the way they hug to the body

6. Frequency of wearing Indian dresses : At least twice a month

Simrata is wearing a Short Kurti with Gota work and printed Silk Patiala salwar. Patiala salwars are kind of seeing a revival this year with beautiful colors and patterns

Net sarees are huge this time. These worn with slightly long sleeved blouses are this season's hottest trend in Indian wear. 

Tanvi wears a beautiful Pink shaded saree with a champagne colored blouse.

Simrata Singh Chaudhary

2. Favorite haunts for Diwali Shopping this season : Mumbai boutiques & Satva - a multi designer store

3. Loves about Diwali : lights, candles, diyas, decorations & the whole festive spirit

4. Trends noticed this season for Indian wear : Half & Half concept sarees

5. Would like to see revival of : Mumtaz style saris & really tight kurtis with churidars.

6. Frequency of wearing Indian dresses : have to wear indian everyday as my work demands but otherwise maybe once in a month

Tanvi Karnik

1. Favorite Indian Wear : Anarkalis & sarees

2. Favorite haunts for Diwali Shopping this season : Private exhibitions & boutiques

3. Loves about Diwali : bright lights, sumptuous food & family get togethers

4. Trends noticed this season for Indian wear : Lace sarees

5. Would like to see revival of : Mumtaz style saris becos of the Indo Western touch to it.

6. Frequency of wearing Indian dresses : very often, I love Indian wear.

Last but not the least I asked them about how they liked Label D Clothes and they were ecstatic saying they will definitely come back to shop for more 

Tanvi luuuved them and found them very comfortable, Sanskriti said she has been looking for these kind of clothes and they are stylish and trendy. Sim found them very festive and highly recommends for  Bridal trousseau
